St. Luke's Orthodox Mission is dedicated to nurturing and spreading traditional Orthodox spirituality in all of its manifestations. The holy apostle and evangelist Luke was one of the first Christian missionaries. Born in Antioch, he had an extensive education in philosophy, medicine and art. As a contemporary of our Lord Jesus Christ during His earthly life, St Luke lived in Jerusalem. As one of the Seventy, he witnessed the Lord's miraculous works. After the descent of the Holy Spirit on the apostles, St Luke returned to Antioch where he toiled together with St Paul preaching the Gospel. Together they traveled to Rome, converting Jews and pagans to Christianity. Subsequently, he wrote the third Gospel at the request of the Christian community. Amongst other places, he preached the Gospel in Italy, Dalmatia and Macedonia. He is the author of three icons - the most Holy Theotokos and Saints Peter and Paul and is considered to be the first iconographer. St Luke continued to spread the Christian faith until the end of his life. As our mission, St. Luke's wishes to exemplify the life of this great saint.
